No Refusal Weekends

In Texas, no refusal weekends are slowly gaining traction. During a no refusal weekend, police officers have the authority to force any individual they suspect of committing an alcohol-related offense to take a blood alcohol concentration test, usually through drawing blood.

Unfortunately, there is no way around a no refusal weekend. If you have been accused of drunk driving during a no refusal weekend, contact the Houston DWI lawyers of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., today at 713-222-0400 for a free consultation.

Knowing about No Refusal Weekends

No refusal weekends are meant to crack down on drinking and driving during weekends when police expect an increase in alcohol consumption. Usually, these weekends correspond with holiday weekends, which may include:

  • New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
  • Christmas
  • Thanksgiving
  • Labor Day
  • July 4th
  • Memorial Day

The local police and sheriff’s departments will announce no refusal weekends in advance to warn drivers that police will be looking to stop individuals for suspected drinking and driving. When an individual is stopped on a no refusal weekend, he or she will be asked to submit to a BAC test.

If an individual refuses a BAC test, then the police will force the individual to take a blood test.
