A 37-year-old man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter following the death of a passenger in his vehicle. The accident occurred around 6:30 AM last Saturday when the vehicle crashed into a stopped 18-wheeler on the shoulder of 610 Loop.
Police said the driver was headed northbound in a GMC pickup truck on the West Loop when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the 18-wheeler, which had partially lost its load and had stopped on the freeway shoulder.
The passenger, riding in the front seat, was thrown through the windshield. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was also injured and was taken to a local hospital. Police have not released the name of the victim nor the extent of the driver’s injuries.
