A Houston woman was granted “shock probation” over jail time this week following a six month stint in prison for the intoxication manslaughter death of a 28-year-old man on May 13, 2007.
It is the first time that the Houston judge who granted the ruling last Monday has approved a shock probation, which is meant to have offenders experience the trauma and shock of incarceration without the long-term effects of prison time.
As a result, the woman must serve 10 years on probation.
The legal manuever is often attempted after a drunk driving conviction but rarely granted by a judge.
