A man in Houston has been charged in a fatal traffic crash in which he is suspected of driving drunk.
According to officials with the Houston Police Department, 28 year-old Jason Deran McCoy is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the wreck that occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Dowling and Polk Roads. The accident claimed the life of 27 year-old Deyland Braxton. Braxton was critically injured in the crash and was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say McCoy was driving a Silver BMW southbound on Dowling when he ran a red light and collided with the a Dodge Caliber that was traveling eastbound on Polk. The BMW then struck a tree, bounced off a brick building, and hit a telephone pole.
Braxton was the backseat passenger in the BMW.
