A Beaumont man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday after he was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

24-year-old Lance Edward Palermo was driving drunk on January 3rd when he caused a collision that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Shelby Forester. Palermo was recklessly driving at a speed between 99 and 107 miles per hour, and was found to have a blood alcohol content over four times the legal Texas limit.

Along with the intoxication manslaughter charge, Palermo also received three aggravated assault charges. Due to Palermo pleading guilty to the charges, the judge ruling the case dismissed two of the aggravated assault charges and agreed to allow his sentences to run concurrently.
